Remarks: The titles Dreamy Kathmandu, Brahmaputra and Shambala are very quiet, totally remixed versions of the titles Rainy Kathmandu, Ganga und Paradise.

SHAMBALA, on the one hand is the legendary kingdom in the Himalayas, on the other hand it is the name given to the Buddhist myth that symbolizes the silent, inner path to spiritual enlightment. The idea of composing this meditative music by building on new ideas and on themes from previous work was promoted by many MIND OVER MATTER fans asking for more extended pieces of peaceful, relaxing music.
So, here you are. Enjoy a calm hour of meditation, love and tenderness.

1985 erzählte mir Brian Eno in einem Gespräch, daß er herausgefunden habe, daß unsere Gehirne höhenlastige Musik als nah am Ohr befindliche Geräusche einordnen und den Körper wegen dieser vermeintlichen Bedrohung unterbewußt in Alarmbereitschaft versetzen. Bei der Erstellung von SHAMBALA habe ich mich an diese Erkenntnis erinnert und im Stile von Eno`s AMBIENT MUSIC vorangegangene und neue MoM-Themen zu einer weichen, unaufdringlichen, entspannenden Musik verknüpft.

A timely arrival after their headlining performance at EMMA#4, this album is advertised as "The quiet album, peaceful music for relaxation". Anyone partial to soothing sounds and subliminal textures which hint at melody and rhythm will be impressed by this album. It undoubtedly has meditative qualities which are underlined by the Buddha style imagery on the front cover. Shambhala apparently has dual meanings; the legendary kingdom in the Himalayas, and a symbol of the silent, inner path to spiritual enlightenment. I think you get the idea by now! Musically the album is executed with some style and panache. Some of the melodies have underlying strengths which belie the delicate execution. The title track weighs in at a sturdy 18 minutes and most of the others surpass the ten minute mark. They seldom sound overly long though, an indication that this hasn't just been thrown together. Headphones on, turn off the lights and drift.

Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock hat mich, wie immer, mit seiner Musik nach Asien entführt. Aber es ist keine Reise in das unbekannte Land. Wer die CDs von ihm alle kennt, der hört vertraute Klänge. Die Musikstücke sind in etwas anderer Verpackung, ohne die von ihm gewohnten Gitarrenelemente.
Das erste Stück, sofort zu erkennen 'Dreamy (Rainy) Kathmandu'. Dieser verhallte Glockensound erinnerte mich an das Glockenmuseum in einer mittelalterlichen Burg, die ich mal besuchte. Die hohe gewölbte Decke dieses Gebäudes rief eine ähnliche Akustik hervor. Zu diesen schönen Klängen kommen noch Flöten und eine schöne Synthie-Untermalung, einfach traumhaft.
Asien pur in 'The world of Koto'.
Der Ganges fließt als 'Brahmaputra' träge in der Mittagsglut dahin. Ganga ist sowieso eines meiner Lieblingsstücke von Mind over Matter. Mit 'Shambala' reise ich nun zum Dach der Welt, um dort das Paradies zu suchen. 'Music for Paradise' stand Pate für dieses zauberhafte Entspannungsstück.
'Distant Echoes' ist besonders gut zur Meditation geeignet. Es könnte gerne etwas länger sein.
Alles in allem sehr ruhige und harmonische Entspannungsmusik, die, wie auf dem Booklet bereits beschrieben, hilft, die innere Balance zwischen Körper und Seele herzustellen und Energie zu tanken.
Abschließend kann ich nur Danke sagen für diese überirdisch schöne Musik, die mich oft den Alltagsstreß vergessen läßt.
